On June 24, the 2023 National Science and Technology Awards were announced in Beijing. Xiamen won a total of seven awards, setting a new record for the city. The National Science and Technology Awards are the highest honors in China's science and technology field. Among the winning projects, the "Mechanisms of Formation and Spread of Antibiotic Resistance Genes in the Environment" led by the Institute of Urban Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the "Key Technologies and Applications for Beach Protection and Restoration in Complex Coastal Environments" led by the Third Institute of Oceanography, Ministry of Natural Resources, received the second prize in the National Natural Science Award and the second prize in the National Science and Technology Progress Award, respectively. The project "Key Technologies for High-Efficiency Ultra-Wideband GaN Power Amplifiers and Their Industrial Applications in 5G Communications," involving Xiamen Sanan IC Co., Ltd., won the first prize in the National Science and Technology Progress Award. Additionally, Huaqiao University, Xiamen University, Jimei University, and AKM Meadville, as collaborating units, also received the second prize in the National Science and Technology Progress Award.
