I. Overview
As a strategic fulcrum of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, Xiamen has grown and prospered through its port. It has developed into a vital hub in China's national comprehensive transportation system and an international container trunk port, with container throughput exceeding 10 million TEUs for nine consecutive years. Guided by the goal of building a world-class port, Xiamen Port benchmarks itself against top global ports such as Singapore, and actively serves and integrates into the new development paradigm.
II. Introduction to Major Areas
1.Haicang Port Area
Equipped with 40 berths (including 29 berths of 10,000 tons or above), the port area has an annual designed throughput capacity of approximately 33.44 million tons of cargo and about 8 million TEUs of containers.
Positioning: Primarily focused on ocean-going transportation, it serves as the core area of the international container trunk port. The annual container throughput capacity will be expanded to 14 million TEUs. It functions as a logistics industry cluster centered on the Haicang Bonded Port Zone, adjacent to the seaport.
Industry Focus: It specializes in trunk-road container transportation, and fosters port-adjacent industries. It is also vigorously developing bonded, modern logistics, and shipping services. Key developments include international container multimodal transport, cross-border e-commerce logistics, international procurement and distribution, and international transshipment services. The area aims to become a port-adjacent distribution logistics cluster and a shipping & logistics headquarters hub.
2. Dongdu Port Area
The port area has 23 completed berths of 10,000-ton class and above, with an annual designed container throughput capacity of 2.574 million TEUs.
Positioning: Primarily focused on short-to-medium-haul ocean transportation, it serves as the core area for the “Silk Road Maritime” initiative. It forms a logistics industry cluster comprising Dongdu Port Area, Xiangyu Bonded Logistics Park, and the Airport Industrial and Logistics Park.
Industry Focus: It maintains container transportation as the core business while developing international cruise services and cross-Strait passenger ro-ro transport, actively expanding modern logistics and shipping services. The area focuses on building international procurement and distribution, international transshipment, bonded exhibitions, port-adjacent commodity trading, and international trade settlement, payment services, etc. It prioritizes high-end industrial element aggregation projects and emphasizes the development of cold chain logistics, cross-border e-commerce logistics, urban distribution logistics, sea express freight, and bonded logistics.
3. Xiang'an Port Area
The port area has 5 completed berths (including 3 berths of 10,000-ton class and above), with an annual designed cargo throughput capacity of 3.3 million tons. It primarily handles container, bulk, and general cargo transportation.
Positioning: Possessing Xiamen Port's scarce deep-water shoreline resources, the port area is highly valuable. Leveraging the Xiang'an International Airport, it will develop into a regional comprehensive sea-land-air transportation hub in the future.
Industry Focus: It forms a logistics industry cluster anchored by Xiang'an International Airport, the Cross-Strait Emerging Industries and Modern Service Industry Cooperation Demonstration Zone, the Torch (Xiang'an) Type B Bonded Logistics Center, and the Liuwudian Port Area. The area aims to build air-side and sea-side procurement and distribution centers for production and daily necessities, develop regional intercity and urban procurement, distribution, and operations settlement headquarters, and advance multimodal transport and cross-border e-commerce logistics.
4. Qianchang Area
Qianchang Logistics Park is the core park among Xiamen's five major logistics industry clusters. It focuses on building a regional inland port, advancing the development of a core hub for China-Europe Railway Express sea-rail intermodal transport, and strives to become a national benchmark logistics industry cluster.
Positioning: Leveraging its advantages as a dual-circulation land-side logistics hub, it will complement port collection and distribution functions. In coordination with the Houjing Area, it will establish a benchmark for internal and external trade dual-circulation logistics, grounded in land-side logistics and driven by multimodal transport, becoming the "Southeast Land-Sea Bridgehead" connecting Taiwan, Southeast Asia, and the Eurasian continent.
Industry Focus: It develops high-speed rail express logistics bases, railway port cargo collection and consolidation bases, and bulk commodity warehousing & trading bases. Priority will be given to establishing comprehensive railway logistics centers and container multimodal transport centers focused on rail-related logistics, while gradually advancing internal and external trade integration centers centered on commerce, trade and logistics.
