Public Transportation
Public transport is highly encouraged in Xiamen at top priority. The public transportation network of Xiamen is developed with reasonable station coverage and low price. There are bus routes to and from most tourist attractions in Xiamen. In addition to the bus, Xiamen has 7 Bus Rapid Transit routes that are running on elevated viaduct.
Taxi
Xiamen has many taxies. Taking a taxi to visit tourist attractions is an economical, fast and convenient means of transportation. Didi, an internet-based car hailing platform, is popular for people in Xiamen and in China now.
Bicycle
Xiamen introduced bicycle-sharing system years ago and it has brought much convenience to local people. Xiamen is a city suitable for slow traveling and many roads have bicycle lanes. There are many options to rent a bike. All it takes is a phone app. One only needs to scan a QR code using a smart phone to unlock a shared bike. Riders are encouraged to park at geo-fenced parking areas that does not interfere with pedestrians or traffic. In addition to public shared bikes, shared bikes operated by the Hello Global, Meituan and Qingju bike companies are also available for tourists to cycle in Xiamen.
Rail Transit
At present, subway line 1 and line 2 are opened for operation. According to the approved rail transit construction planning, Xiamen is now under the construction of subway lines 3, 4, 6. With the total length expected to reach 180km, it will eventually form a rail transit network of "city center promoting development of peripheral bay areas".
