As of the end of 2024, the average life expectancy in Xiamen reached an impressive 83.62 years. Xiamen boasts a robust network of 2,748 medical and health institutions including 70 hospitals, 2,634 primary-level medical and health institutions, 21 specialized public health institutions, and 23 other healthcare providers. Xiamen is recognized for its excellence in specialized medical fields, with 15 nationally designated key clinical specialties, including pediatric critical care, gastroenterology, cardiology, and general surgery. Currently, there are 12 prestigious Grade-A tertiary hospitals, all of which are equipped to provide comprehensive medical care to both Chinese and international residents.

1. The First Affiliated Hospital of Xiamen University

Ranked among China’s top 100 hospitals, this comprehensive Grade-A tertiary institution encompasses six branches, an internet hospital, and a nursing home. With 69 clinical and medical technical departments, it integrates medical treatment, teaching, research, prevention, and rehabilitation, serving as the largest healthcare provider in southwestern Fujian.

2. Zhongshan Hospital, Xiamen University

Another of China’s top 100 hospitals, this Grade-A tertiary comprehensive hospital integrates medical treatment, teaching, research, and preventive healthcare, and is affiliated with the world-renowned research university. With three campuses, it offers nationally recognized clinical specialties in gastroenterology, cardiology, and general surgery.

3. West China Xiamen Hospital, Sichuan University

A pilot project of the National Regional Medical Center, this Grade-A tertiary hospital leverages the expertise of Sichuan University’s renowned West China Hospital. Operated under a standardized model, it provides comprehensive services integrating medical treatment, prevention, teaching, and research.

4. Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University (Xiamen Branch)

The first project inaugurated by the National Regional Medical Center, this Grade-A tertiary hospital boasts 15 specialized physician studios, and benefits from the management and expertise of Fudan University’s Zhongshan Hospital.

5. Xiamen Cardiovascular Hospital Xiamen University

Fujian province’s sole tertiary cardiovascular specialty hospital, this institution has been designated a branch of the National Clinical Research Center for Cardiovascular Diseases, and separately designated a National Regional Medical Center jointly established by the National Health Commission and Fujian Provincial Government. Its Department of Cardiology is a nationally recognized key clinical specialty.

6. Xiamen Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Xiamen Hospital of Dongzhimen Hospital of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine)

Fujian’s only national-level Traditional Chinese Medicine Regional Medical Center, this hospital serves as a national export base for specialized traditional Chinese medicine services.

7. Chang Gung Memorial Hospital 

Established by Formosa Plastics Group founder Wang Yung-ching, this hospital represents a significant contribution to the region’s healthcare landscape. Affiliated with Huaqiao University, this Taiwanese-funded Grade-A tertiary hospital provides high-quality medical care with a focus on affordability and accessibility. It integrates medical treatment, healthcare, elder care, and research.

8. Xiamen Humanity Hospital 

Funded by the Benevolence Medical Foundation which is initiated by C&D Group, this Grade-A tertiary hospital is a teaching hospital for Fujian Medical University and Xiamen Medical College, as well as the affiliated hospital of Fujian Medical University (in preparation). It currently offers 48 clinical and medical technical departments.
