CATL launches new project in Xiamen

As the latest achievement of deep cooperation between Xiamen City and CATL, the construction of the first phase of the electrochemical energy storage system project commenced on June 22. This project aims to establish a world-leading, first-class domestic platform for the research, testing, and demonstration of energy storage system technologies. Located in Tongxiang High-tech City in the Torch High-tech Zone, the project covers an area of approximately 150 acres with a total investment of about 3 billion yuan. It is scheduled to be completed and operational by 2025. Upon completion, it will be operated by CATL’s Xiamen Shizheng Energy Storage Technology Research Institute, focusing on large-capacity, high-safety, and highly reliable grid-connected energy storage demonstrations, the development of advanced testing technologies and equipment, and the establishment of high-level industry standards for grid-connected energy storage systems. Currently, there is a global shortage of comprehensive testing capabilities for large-scale energy storage systems. This project will address this gap, creating a comprehensive testing capability for battery energy storage systems, and is expected to transform Xiamen into a world-class hub for energy storage innovation, research, and demonstration.
