Xiamen Port recently established a sister port relationship with Long Beach Port, one of the major ports in the United States. The two ports will engage in long-term and stable exchanges and cooperation in various fields, including trade development, infrastructure development, ecological and environmental protection, and smart technology, fostering mutual prosperity. This brings the total number of Xiamen Port's international sister ports to 18.
Long Beach Port is known as the second busiest container port in the United States, boasting 175 shipping routes that connect to 217 ports worldwide, making it a strategically important location. In 2023, Xiamen Port operated 17 container shipping routes to the United States, with two routes calling at Long Beach Port, handling an annual container throughput of 158,600 TEUs, an increase of 46.37% year-on-year. The partnership between the two ports is seen as a solid foundation for further deepening their cooperation.
Following the establishment of this sister port relationship, both parties will explore market demands, actively open more container shipping routes, enhance cargo handling and trade levels, and build resilient supply chains. They will also continue to strengthen the ports' significant roles in economic and trade cooperation, promote information sharing, and boost the development of freight, logistics, and related industries.
