First-ever EAS congress to take place in Xiamen

From November 6 to 12 this year, Xiamen will host a significant regional and international marine event—the 2024 East Asia Seas (EAS) Congress and the 2024 Xiamen International Ocean Week. This marks the first time the EAS Congress will be held in Xiamen.

This year's EAS Congress will be integrated with the Xiamen International Ocean Week, under the theme "Blue Collaboration, Creating the Future: A Sustainable and Resilient Ocean." The 2024 Xiamen International Ocean Week will continue with the theme "Fostering New Momentum for Blue Development and Building a Shared Future for the Ocean."

The EAS Congress, organized by the Partnerships in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA), is a major regional marine conference held every three years since 2003. It aims to promote the health of the East Asian Seas, the well-being of its people, and economic development through an integrated approach to ocean management and the establishment of intergovernmental, cross-sectoral, and inter-agency partnerships.

The Xiamen International Ocean Week, a national-level platform for international marine exchanges, has been successfully held for eighteen sessions, dedicated to promoting cooperation and exchange in marine ecological protection and restoration. The integration of the EAS Congress and the Xiamen International Ocean Week will further advance international cooperation and exchange in marine ecology, marine economy, and marine culture.

During the EAS Congress, in addition to the high-end industry exhibitions and carnival activities of the Xiamen International Ocean Week, numerous international events will be held, including the 8th Ministerial Forum of the EAS Congress, the Night of Partnerships, and various international conferences. Domestic and international guests will share their experiences and insights, discuss cooperation plans, and build blue partnerships, providing direction for regional cooperation in the marine field.

The organizing committee stated that this year's Congress aims to further enhance its international, professional, and leading aspects, strengthen its guiding role in regional cooperation, and consolidate consensus among countries to make new contributions to marine cooperation and exchange. Moving forward, the committee will intensify the preparations for the Congress. Xiamen will seize this opportunity to achieve new successes in international marine cooperation, integrated coastal zone management, and marine cultural exchanges.
