Recently, Xiamen and China COSCO Shipping Corporation Ltd. signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement. Xiamen, a key central city on China's southeastern coast, boasts multiple advantages, including being a BRICS Innovation Base, a Free Trade Zone, an Independent Innovation Demonstration Zone, and a strategic maritime cooperation hub. It also benefits from its status as a comprehensive transportation hub and a top-tier business environment. In 2023, Xiamen Port ranked 7th in China and 13th globally in container throughput. China COSCO Shipping Corporation Ltd., a major state-owned enterprise directly managed by the central government, ranked 115th in the 2023 Fortune Global 500. According to the agreement, both parties will leverage Xiamen Port's strategic location and COSCO Shipping's global supply chain resources and integration capabilities to promote the integrated development of the "Silk Road Maritime" initiative. This will enhance Xiamen's international shipping center and COSCO Shipping's related industrial sectors, aiming to build Xiamen into an international container hub port that serves Southeast China, connects the "Belt and Road" initiative, and reaches global markets.
