On May 8th, Mayor Huang Wenhui of Xiamen met with the Italian Ambassador to China, Massimo Ambrosetti, and his colleagues.
Huang Wenhui welcomed Ambassador Massimo Ambrosetti's visit and briefly introduced the economic and social development of Xiamen. He mentioned that Xiamen has been a trading port since ancient times and has generated much wealth for the country. It is also one of the four earliest economic special zones in China to implement the policy of opening up. Xiamen has multiple advantages such as the pilot free trade zone and the BRICS PartNIR Innovation Center, the combination of Eastern and Western cultures, and the harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.
Currently, Xiamen is furthering high-level opening up, accelerating its development as a key city for the new development pattern, and striving to take the lead in achieving socialist modernization. Xiamen is willing to join hands with the Italy side to carry out the major consensus reached by the heads of China and Italy on deepening and widening practical cooperation in economy, trade, culture, tourism, and education and work together to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results, so as to contribute local efforts to the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Italy.
Ambassador Massimo Ambrosetti appreciated the warm reception by Xiamen and praised the beautiful ecological environment, rich cultural heritage, and vibrant economy of this city.
He said that this year marked the 20th anniversary of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Italy and China and the Italian embassy and consulates in China will further serve as a bridge to actively promote economic and trade exchanges between Italy and Xiamen, enhance cultural exchanges, deepen tourism cooperation, and achieve complementary strengths, to benefit the people of both countries.
