Xiamen's foreign trade hits a record high

In 2023, Xiamen's total foreign trade volume reached a historic peak of 947.04 billion yuan, marking a 2.7% increase from the previous year and securing the fourth position among China's 15 sub-provincial cities. General trade imports and exports totaled 707.6 billion yuan, growing by 4.8% and surpassing the national average by 2.8 percentage points. The city's foreign trade sector demonstrated robust vitality with 36,948 import and export enterprises, including 3,509 new entities in the year. Private enterprises accounted for nearly 90% of the total. Xiamen's foreign trade network expanded, establishing trade relations with 230 countries and regions worldwide, adding 11 new trade partners compared to 2022. The city's trade with its top three partners - ASEAN, EU, and the USA - totaled 421.96 billion yuan, accounting for 44.6% of its total trade volume. Trade with emerging markets also grew; transactions with countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative reached 460.79 billion yuan, an increase of 1.4%; trade with RCEP member countries hit 315.61 billion yuan, growing by 0.03%; and trade with the BRICS nations reached 109.25 billion yuan, a significant 14.4% increase.
