Xiamen Port accelerates development of international transshipment business

On November 21, two containers imported from the Port of Gdansk in Poland to China were loaded onto the Hong Kong-registered vessel "COSCO Shipping Seine" at the Xiamen Ocean Gate Terminal, destined for Qingdao Port. This marks the official launch of Fujian Province's first international maritime vessel coastal relay service. Coastal relay refers to the transportation of foreign trade containers between Chinese coastal ports by international vessels. This service attracts shipping companies to shift their international transshipment business from traditional hubs like Busan and Singapore to Xiamen, enhancing Xiamen Port's capability to aggregate and manage international shipping routes and cargo resources. This initiative is expected to boost the development of international transshipment and other port services, further elevating Xiamen's status as an international shipping center. In 2022, Xiamen Port's container throughput exceeded 12.43 million TEUs, continuing to lead the ports along the southeast coast of China.
