The IAAF Diamond League is set to take place at Xiamen Egret Stadium on September 2, initiating a decade-long residency in Xiamen. This year, Xiamen is the exclusive host city for the Diamond League competition within China. The Diamond League is one of the most prestigious and influential track and field series worldwide. Sporting events like these have proven instrumental in stimulating various industries within the city. Initial calculations suggest that in 2022, the cumulative sports-related expenditure of Xiamen's residents reached approximately 16.536 billion yuan, with per capita sports spending amounting to 3,115.21 yuan, indicating a surge of 23.4% and 22.8% respectively compared to last year. This expenditure accounted for 7.1% of the total consumer spending in the city. Moreover, Xiamen has established itself as Asia's largest fitness equipment export hub and a significant export base for sports shoes, apparel, eyewear, and outdoor gear in China, nurturing a distinctive sports-centered economy.
