Recently, Xiamen has been successfully rated as a "national demonstrative city for intellectual property rights". The pilot demonstration period starts in July 2022 and ends in June 2025. Xiamen is one of the two special economic zones on the list, marking that the city is now in the first tier regarding the intellectual property work. In recent years, Xiamen has highly valued intellectual property and issued a series of regulations and development plans. It has also been granted such titles as "one of the first ten national founding cities for intellectual properties protection" and one of the eight "major cities for the construction of the intellectual property and operation service system". It has been rated as the benchmarking city in China Business Environment Evaluation in terms of "intellectual property creation, protection, and utilization". The city is also approved to build China's first "electronic commercial intellectual property operation center". By the end of 2021, the ownership of high-value invention patents per 10,000 people in Xiamen reached 16.74; the scale of intellectual property pledge and financing reached 2.516 billion yuan, both topping Fujian province. Xiamen Torch Development Zone for High Technology Industries was rated as the "national intellectual property demonstration zone" and Xiamen University was rated as the "national intellectual property demonstrative university".
