In 2021, Xiamen witnessed fast growth in the consumption sector, registering a total retail sales of 258.41 billion yuan, up by 12.7%, leading the whole province in growth rate. To further intensify the fundamental role of consumption in economic development, Xiamen recently issued the Xiamen Action Plan for Fostering and Creating An International Consumption Hub City. The goal is to achieve a stable increase of city-wide consumption scale, a gradual upgrade of consumption quality, innovative development of the consumption mode, and significant improvement in the consumption environment, and basically build Xiamen into a locally-featured and regionally-covered international consumption hub city that leads the whole province and radiates Southeast Asia.
