Feasibility study report of Xiamen New Airport project approved

Recently, China's National Development and Reform Commission officially approved the feasibility study report of Xiamen New Airport project. The airport is positioned as China's important international airport, a regional hub, an international cargo port, and a cross-strait exchange gateway. The airport is planned to cover an area of about 50 square kilometers and has a 4F class flying area. Four runways shall be built, which can accommodate the world's largest aircraft. The terminal and supporting facilities will cover about 1 million square meters. It will be one of the largest single terminal buildings in China, with a capacity of 45 million person-times/year in the near future and 85 million person-times/year in the long term. After its completion, it will meet the needs of regional social and economic development, improve the investment and business environment of the city, and become a new engine for cross-island development of Xiamen and an important platform for the integration of Xiamen, Zhangzhou and Quanzhou and the coordinated development of Southwest Fujian. It will also facilitate cross-strait industrial integration and serve as an important traffic hub for China's opening-up and development. As of February this year, 34 investment projects in the airport area have been completed with a total investment of 80.851 billion yuan.
