On the morning of October 21, Chen Qiuxiong, deputy secretary of the CPC Xiamen Municipal Committee and president of Xiamen Municipal People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, met with H.E. Clare Feanley, the New Zealand Ambassador to China, along with her delegation. Chen said that Xiamen and New Zealand have a long history of exchanges and close cooperation, and the capital Wellington is one of Xiamen's closest sister cities, with fruitful exchanges and cooperation in fields like agriculture, economy and trade, culture, education and tourism. In February this year, during the severe strike of COVID-19 in China, the mayor of Wellington sent a letter of condolence to Xiamen upon taking office. In July, Xiamen donated 50,000 disposable ordinary medical masks to the Wellington municipal government, which demonstrates the profound friendship between the two cities.
Clare Feanley highly commended Xiamen's outstanding performance in dealing with the epidemic and expressed gratitude for Xiamen's donation of epidemic prevention materials on behalf of Wellington. She said that Xiamen boasts rich room for cooperation with New Zealand in the fields of education, culture, tourism, trade and aviation, and the New Zealand Embassy in China and the Consulate General in Guangzhou will strengthen the promotion of relevant cooperation projects with Xiamen.
