On the morning of October 10, the unveiling ceremony of the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute of Xiamen University was held, marking the formal founding of this institute. Chen Chun, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and alumnus of the Department of Mathematics of Xiamen University will act as emeritus president of the Institute. As pointed out by Huang Xiaozhou, vice mayor of Xiamen, Xiamen Municipal Government and CPC Xiamen Municipal Committee attached great importance to the development of the artificial intelligence industry. The new institute is expected to help Xiamen develop a "Silicon Valley" of artificial intelligence.
Xiamen University is the first Chinese university to promote AI-related research. It is the third Chinese university to found a specialty in intelligent science and technology and one of the first 35 Chinese universities fostering majors in artificial intelligence. The Artificial Intelligence Research Institute of Xiamen University has set up Theoretical and Technical Center, Interdisciplinary and Application Center and Industrial Empowerment Center and covers basic AI-related theoretical and technical researches.It will also engage in interdisciplinary researches based on its research advantages in economy, chemistry, ocean, public health and other specialties. It will cooperate with topnotch AI enterprises to develop interdisciplinary research platforms and a scientific research service system covering the full chain of production, academia, research and application.
