Xiamen's per capita GDP in 2019 surpasses 20,000 US dollars for the first time

On April 8, Li Wei, chief statistician of Xiamen Bureau of Statistics, accepted the online interview on Xiamen Municipal People's Government Network to interpret the Statistical Bulletin on Xiamen's Economic and Social Development in 2019.

In 2019, Xiamen achieved a regional GDP of 599.504 billion Yuan, ranking 33rd nationwide. Calculated by resident population, the per capita GDP of Xiamen rose from 118,000 Yuan in 2018 to 142,700 Yuan, equivalent to 20,691 US dollars. "The per capita GDP of Xiamen is a standard that directly reflects the living standards of citizens. In 2019, Xiamen's per capita GDP broke through the 20,000 US dollars mark for the first time, reaching the standard of developed economies." said Li Wei. On the other hand, in terms of the city's GDP growth rate, regional GDP grew by 7.9% in 2019, topping vice-provincial cities, which has also seen its best result since 2015.

Li noted that the CPC municipal committee and municipal government have made great efforts in the past year to improve people's livelihood and well-being, with fruits of development better benefiting all citizens. In 2019, the per capita disposable income of residents in Xiamen was 55,870 Yuan, up 9.7%, which was 1.8 percentage points faster than that of GDP. The per capita wage income was 39,472 Yuan, up 9.4%.

"Life expectancy per capita is one of the three core indexes of the United Nations Human Development Index, which reflects the overall health of cities." As introduced by Li Wei, the average life expectancy in Xiamen last year was 80.89 years, increased by 0.14 years from the previous year, which has something to do with the development of the health care system and the cause of providing for the aged.
