Recently, the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO announced that Xiamen has become a new member of the cities with the ocean platform for the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021 - 2030) (hereinafter referred to as the "Ocean Decade"). The Ocean Decade represents one of the significant ocean initiatives launched by the United Nations in recent years, with the objective of delivering scientific solutions to enhance global ocean governance. In recent years, Xiamen has expedited the construction of a national marine economy development demonstration zone, with a significant focus on broadening its "blue circle of friends". In addition to successfully hosting the annual Xiamen International Ocean Week to continually increase its influence, this year the city will also reinforce maritime exchanges and cooperation with countries and regions along the "Maritime Silk Road", building multi-level partnerships that will support the advancement of Xiamen's marine industry. In the future, Xiamen is committed to adhering to the principles of sustainable development and collaborating with other members of the Ocean Decade "Coastal City" platform to address challenges including climate change and marine pollution.
