Xiamen's marine carbon trading goes international

At the recent 6th United Nations Environment Assembly held at the UNEP headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization's Investment and Technology Promotion Office delegation achieved carbon neutrality for their Africa mission, supported by the Xiamen Property Rights Exchange. This carbon neutrality initiative, utilizing marine carbon sinks by the Xiamen Property Rights Exchange, marks the internationalization of Xiamen's marine carbon trading. As the first marine carbon trading platform in China, the Exchange has already facilitated over 160,000 tons of marine carbon sink transactions. Back in 2017, the Exchange pioneered the implementation of mangrove marine carbon sinks for carbon neutrality in China, contributing to the construction of the Xiatanwei Mangrove Forest for Carbon Neutrality Purpose. This initiative, the first "zero carbon emission" in the history of the BRICS Summit, received high praise from the UN Special Envoy for the Ocean, becoming the internationally recognized "Carbon Neutral Xiamen Story."
