I. Development Foundation
Xiamen’s new material industry is focused on special metal materials, inorganic nonmetallic materials and advanced polymer materials; it covers optoelectronic information materials, alternative-energy materials, and advanced carbon nanomaterials. The new functional material industry has been included in the national strategic emerging industrial clusters. In 2022, the output value totaled RMB 125.8 billion. Major higher-education and research institutions in Xiamen include Xiamen University, Huaqiao University, Xiamen University of Technology, Xiamen Materials Academy of CSIC No. 725 Institute, and the CAS Xiamen Rare Earth Materials Institute. Moreover, there are 34 corporate technology centers (including eight at the national level and eight at the provincial level), as well as eight engineering technology research centers (including five at the national level and three at the provincial level) and 23 key laboratories. Representative enterprises include Xiamen Tungsten, Xiamen Tungsten New Materials, Xiashun Holdings, Hengkun New Materials, Dangsheng New Materials, Xiamen Changsu, HMT (Xiamen) New Technical Materials, and Yanjan New Materials.
II. Development Priorities
1.Lithium-ion battery anode materials, diaphragm materials and high energy density battery systems, which are aligned with Xiamen Tungsten alternative-energy cathode materials to achieve lithium-ion battery and materials industry agglomeration.
2.High-performance anticorrosive coatings, advanced coating materials, fiber composites, high-temperature composite filter media and functional membrane materials and their applications in aerospace, high-speed rail, shipping, environmental protection and other fields.
3.R&D and manufacturing enterprises in the field of polymer materials.
4.Technologically advanced SMEs, incubators and other new-style R&D institutions in the fields of advanced structural materials, high-performance composite materials, high-end metal structural materials, life and health materials, nano-materials and carbon fiber materials.
5.To bring in R&D, application and industrialization enterprises in new materials represented by graphene which are capable of providing entrepreneurial incubation and industrialization medium support.
