On December 22, MSR I Satellite of Xiamen University was successfully launched at Wenchang Satellite Launch Center. As the world's first C-waveband light SAR satellite and also the first offshore and coastal zone remote sensing satellite of a Chinese university, MSR I Satellite was jointly developed by Xiamen University, Changsha Tianyi Space Technology Research Institute Co., Ltd and CETC No. 38 Research Institute. It is expected to aid marine research and observe ocean, typhoon, storm tide and other natural conditions from space. It can also identify flood zones and monitor deformations of the earth surface. MSR II Satellite is expected to be launched in 2021.
