Xiamen Port ranks 11th in the PLSCI ranking

Xiamen Port ranked 11th in the Port Liner Shipping Connectivity Index (PLSCI) for the first quarter of 2024, as recently released by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

The PLSCI is a pivotal measure of port development, reflecting a port's significance within the global container shipping network and enjoys high credibility. The index is derived from a weighted combination of several metrics, including the number of direct shipping routes, weekly shipping frequency, the number of shipping lines providing service, total deployed capacity, and the maximum size of vessels that can be accommodated.

These comprehensive conclusions are based on data from over 1,300 ports worldwide, offering a broad and objective evaluation of a port's overall service capabilities. For instance, the more destinations that can be reached directly without transshipment, the faster and lower the risk of connectivity. Higher frequency of shipping line stops reduces waiting times for shippers; more shipping lines mean more options for shippers; ports that can accommodate larger vessels typically have better infrastructure and services. These factors serve as benchmarks for shippers to enhance transportation efficiency and reduce overall trade costs.

Xiamen Port's high ranking highlights its positive development trend and its enhanced ability to allocate resources in the global supply chain. In recent years, Xiamen Port has focused on creating a world-class business environment, ensuring the smooth operation of global supply chains, promoting the healthy development of the international maritime industry, and deepening cooperation in international maritime affairs, all aimed at establishing a "world-class port."

Notably, in the latest PLSCI "Top 20" rankings, Chinese ports hold a significant presence, underlining China's central role in the global container shipping network.
