On April 6, Xiamen of China and Santiago Metropolitan Region of Chile signed a Letter of Intent for a city partnership. Both as renowned tourist cities and attractive places for innovation and startups, the two cities witness a great potential for cooperation. Bridged by the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (NNOSSC) in December 2020, both cities established contact. For a year afterward, they held multiple online matchmaking conferences to share development experiences in advanced technologies, environmental protection, green transportation, and other fields. Representing the wish of people from both sides, the signing of this Letter of Intent ushered them into a new chapter of exchanges and communication. Both cities will take the opportunities of the "Belt & Road" initiative, the South-South Cooperation, and the partnership among BRICS nations and BRICS+ nations to boost the multifaceted practical cooperation between both cities.
