Xiamen saw its regional GDP grow by 21.1% to 159.25 billion yuan in the first quarter of 2021. The city's imports and exports amounted to 185.39 billion yuan, with a year-on-year rise of 29.0%, including exports of 91.09 billion yuan and imports of 94.3 billion yuan, up 28.9% and 29.0% year on year, respectively. Riding the increasing trade scale tides among BRICS countries year by year, Xiamen achieved a growth of 10.3% to 14.1 billion yuan in its imports and exports to BRICS countries. Xiamen also gained foreign direct investment of 7.698 billion yuan in the first quarter, with a year-on-year increase of 29% that ranked 2nd in the province. The total amount accounted for 56.5% of the province, 8.8 percentage points higher than the previous year, and the scale remained steady at the top of the province.
