Xiamen has set a clear goal of building itself into an internationally renowned sports city during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026–2030). The city has recently hosted a series of high-profile events, including the Minchao League, the World Athletics Diamond League, the Cross-Strait Dragon Boat Race, and the National Fitness Games, drawing strong public enthusiasm. By the end of 2025, Xiamen's per capita sports venue area had reached 3.64 square meters, ranking first in Fujian Province and among the top cities nationwide. Over the years, Xiamen has steadily built a strong portfolio of high-level events covering athletics, football, badminton, triathlon, beach volleyball, rowing, paddling, and Go. The completion of major venues such as the "one stadium, two halls" Olympic Sports Center has further strengthened Xiamen's capacity to host more top-tier international events.
