Robust growth in Xiamen's import and export trade with BRICS countries

With Indonesia's formal accession to BRICS and the inclusion of ten additional countries—such as Thailand, Bolivia, Uganda, and Vietnam—as BRICS partner nations, the BRICS cooperation framework is exhibiting enhanced cohesion and expanding influence within the global governance landscape. Xiamen is proactively capitalizing on these developments by continuously deepening economic and trade cooperation with BRICS nations, and demonstrating remarkable vitality. According to the latest data from Xiamen Customs, since the BRICS Leaders' Summit held in Xiamen in September 2017, the cumulative import and export volume with other BRICS markets has reached 662.72 billion yuan as of the end of July 2025. This figure comprises exports valued at 228 billion yuan and imports totaling 434.72 billion yuan. Regarding market composition, Russia, Brazil, and India have emerged as the primary trading partners for Xiamen within the BRICS nations, collectively accounting for 77.1% of the total trade volume with these countries. Specifically, trade with Russia constitutes 30.1%, Brazil 28.2%, and India 18.8% of the total import and export value.
