From the overseas expansion of upstream hydrogen production equipment manufacturing to the strong market reception of downstream hydrogen fuel cell commercial vehicles, Xiamen's hydrogen energy industry demonstrates robust growth momentum. In recent years, the hydrogen energy industry, through its high-quality development, has become a new growth engine for Xiamen's new energy sector. This stems from the city's strategic industrial planning. Within the "4+4+6" modern industrial system framework, Xiamen has explicitly designated hydrogen and energy storage as future-oriented industries. Initiatives include building Xiamen into an innovation hub for hydrogen technology, establishing an advanced hydrogen manufacturing base, orderly developing hydrogen demonstration applications, and expanding multi-sector demonstration use cases. According to this action plan, Xiamen will establish one national-level innovation platform while prioritizing breakthroughs in core technologies such as complete sets of electrolytic hydrogen production equipment, solid-state hydrogen storage materials and equipment, complete sets of hydrogen fuel cell systems, hydrogen-powered vehicles, hydrogen backup power systems, and corresponding key materials, components, and system integration. These advancements will maintain international leadership. The plan aims to achieve localized production of key technologies/equipment/components while encouraging exports, targeting scaled industrial development by 2027.
