Major progress made in Xiamen Taikoo Xiang'an Airport Maintenance Base

时间:2024-04-26

On April 24th, a significant milestone was achieved at the Xiamen Taikoo Xiang'an Airport Maintenance Base as the steel structure roof of Hangar 1 was successfully raised in one piece. This event marks a major construction milestone for what is currently the world's largest single civil aviation aircraft maintenance hangar by size and span.

According to the project leader from China Construction Eighth Engineering Division, Hangars 1 and 2 are central to the entire project, utilizing nearly 30,000 tons of steel in total. The roof of Hangar 1, the largest single lift unit in the project, measures 525.1 meters in length and 73.85 meters in width, covering an area of about 38,800 square meters, equivalent to 93 standard basketball courts. It weighs 11,393 tons, roughly equivalent to 7,600 family cars. The hangar door truss spans 269.5 meters, the largest span of its kind globally. During construction, 11 lifting pump stations and 54 hydraulic jacks, coordinated through a control system, facilitated the gradual elevation of Hangar 1's roof. Over eight hours, the structure was raised 27 meters to its designated height and successfully joined.

The steel structure phase of the project is scheduled to be completed by July this year, followed by comprehensive work on mechanical and electrical installations, interior decorations, and the construction of enclosure structures, with a projected completion and acceptance by November 2025.

Located on the north side of the Xiamen Xiang'an Airport flight area, the maintenance base occupies approximately 537,300 square meters, with a building area of about 292,300 square meters. Once completed, it will enhance the operational support capability and overall service levels of Xiamen Xiang'an Airport. It aims to elevate Xiamen into a high-level international aviation hub and a significant global aviation maintenance industry stronghold. This project supports the high-quality economic integration across the Taiwan Strait and the high-quality joint construction of the "Belt and Road" initiative.
